Jaw War’23 : Indy, Zik, Tedder, Bello, Kuti Shines in First Rounds

The 8th edition of the annual debating competition in the University of Ibadan, Jaw War, started on Tuesday with the inter-halls first rounds where halls of residence competed against one another.

The debate which held at the New Faculty Lecture Theatre (NFLT) of Faculty of Technology had ten Halls of Residence in attendance.

Idia and Indy debated on the topic: ,”Should Sport Organisations ban countries based on socio-political issues”; ABH and Kuti on “Should network neutrality be legalized” ; Zik and Queens slugged it out on: “Corporal punishment should be banned amongst School-Aged children”; Lord Tedder and Obafemi Awolowo on: “Key to universal healthcare in Nigeria: Health insurance or health personnel?”, while Mellanby and Bello’s topic was: “Should Nigeria favour a value-based healthcare model?”

The results of the debates are the following: INDY 66.83% VS IDIA 65.2%.
ZIK 65% VS QUEENS ELIZABETH 59%.
LORD TEDDER 63.8% VS AWO 65.67%.
KUTI 67.66% VS ABH 63.8%.
BELLO 75.12% VS MELLANBY 69.33%

Michael Barnabas, the first speaker from the Sultan Bello Hall emerged as the overall best speaker in the debate.

The second leg of the Inter-Hall Draws continues on Friday.
