Department of philosophy organises Inter-Level debate

National association of philosophy students, faculty of arts, organized its maiden edition of inter-level debate on Wednesday at the faculty of Arts’ Large lecture theater. For the format of the debate, two speakers represented each level in the department and two levels were tied to go head to head.

Oyewole Praise and Oke Ayobami represented the 400level arguing against the topic “Should individuals have the right to die with dignity by assisted suicide or euthanasia”? and 300level was represented by Miskilu Aminat and Igbomekan Emmanuel supporting the argument.

For the 200level, Egbe Richmmon and Abass Oyinkansola opposed the argument “ A philosophical exploration: can change and permanence coexist”?. While opponents from 100level represented by Adeji Praise and Oshotse Jane spoke in favour of the topic.

According to the panel of judges, Professor Agunlanna, Dr. Lawal, Dr. Olayode and Dr. Owoseni, the results was based on the appearance, clarity and logicality, and diction of the debaters.

The results were announced by members of the panel of judges: Dr. Olayode and Dr. Lawal respectively. 100level scored 119 points defeating 200level with 108points. While 400level garnered 66.5points to defeat 300level who accrued 59points.

After the conclusion of the debating rounds and announcement of results, Professor Agunlanna addressed the participants and students “Since my three decades of years lecturing in this university, I am really impressed today. It shows that you really understand what we are teaching you” he said.

The final round of the debate is scheduled for next week Tuesday.
