SIGMA Club Holds Health Outreach

Sigma Club, the oldest and longest known surviving students’ organization in Sub-Saharan Africa held a health outreach for students of the University of Ibadan and its community at large.

The outreach was held at the Student Union building car park with medical professionals on-ground to conduct a series of checks for attendees. Some of the checks rendered were: Visual Acuity Check; Blood Glucose Check; HIV & Syphilis Testing as well as opportunities to speak with specialists in various fields.

The Sigma Chief, Eluwa Lucky while giving his welcome address appreciated participants and encouraged them to ensure they are conscious of their health henceforth adding that the Sigma Club has other philanthropic programmes which include scholarship for indigent and diligent students.

The committee on Dental Education and Health during their session encouraged participants to brush twice daily, before bed at night and after breakfast in the morning. They also advised participants to be intentional about their dental health, “after taking carbonated drinks ensure you rinse your mouth to avoid having the remnant doing havoc to your oral cavity” – the team representative emphasized.
This outreach programme was part of her Social Philanthropic Activities to the University Community and its environs.

Speaking with AFAS Press Correspondent, Fijabi Oluwatobi, Sigma Publicity Committee Chairman said that the club wishes that students stay healthy and are conscious of their health status adding that the outreach currently is not scheduled to hold as an annual event, “the event is a one-off event for now,” he said.

In attendance was an old sigmite, Dr. Gani Adeniran, and the Jaja Health Clinic Director, Professor Dipo Otolorin.
