AFAS CONGRESS: FLC Speaker describes the decisions of the Congress as “invalid”

The speaker of the Association of faculty of Arts’ legislative council, Rt Hon Olasoji Akindejoye has described the recently concluded Congress held at the faculty of Arts’ large lecture theater as deceitful and the decisions, invalid.

The speaker made it known in an interview with Afas press after the conclusion of the Congress stating that the Congress was supposed to start at 3:00pm and not 12:00pm according to the letter of notification sent to him which he had also made it available to the press.

“There was no Congress, only a meeting which we honourably attended. They can call for Congress and not a deceitful meeting instead. No decision made there was valid. The House is to be informed of a Congress at least a week before such Congress. That was done. The Congress as stated in the notification letter is to come up by 3pm on 24th of May. Unfortunately, there was nothing of such on the said date, time, and venue. So, that was a deceit.”

Speaking further, he stated that the Congress was full of suspicion and shrouded with secrecy to push the ulterior motives of the executive council.

“These people are deceitful, right? Their movement and everything are very suspicious. What are they keeping away from the FLC? Neither the General Secretary nor the Assistant General Secretary was there. Was it a deliberate intention to reschedule it for ulterior motives as against the letter sent to the House? Well, you may reach out to those important persons absent”.

Also, he said that he had to quickly join the Congress around 1:00pm when he discovered that they have started in which some decisions had been taken before his arrival. He maintained that the house only acknowledged that the Congress was scheduled to start by 3:00pm.

“Now, I joined around 1 pm when I learnt there was a Congress going on and has started by 12 noon. Congress? Was the House aware? No! Not 3 pm again? Wow! I quickly joined the meeting they call Congress and addressed them. I entertained their questions and clarifications. However, they wouldn’t listen not to take decisions as they already took some decisions before my arrival. Well, decision taking at a meeting? They claim that it was a Congress? Haba! The House acknowledged the Congress slated for 3 pm which eventually did not hold, not a planned meeting for 12 noon called Congress. I have made available the letter sent to me and to the House. Both carry 3 pm. The House knows not of any Congress held by 12 noon. Maybe their special adviser could have told them to relax till the 3 pm on their letters”.

Responding to the accusation, Afas vice president, Olorunfemi Olajumoke who co-signed the letter of summoning sent to the speaker said that “we are having Afas week and plans changed due to that”.
