AFAS FLC Holds Valedictory Sitting, Elects New Principal Officers

The Association of Faculty of Arts (AFAS) Legislative Council has dissolved its previous principal members and elected new ones during the valedictory sitting which was held at the Faculty of Arts Small Lecture Theatre (SLT) on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
The election, which was preceded by the swearing in of new honourables who are representing their respective departmental constituencies in the House, saw Hon. Alagunfon Lukman from the Arabic and Islamic Studies constituency emerging as the Speaker of the House for the next parliament session.
The other newly-elected principal officers are Hon. Janet Meziem, the Deputy Speaker; Hon. Opeoluwa Olatunbosun, the Clerk of the House; Hon. Bushroh Oyeleke, the Deputy Clerk; Hon. Anthony Okorie, the Chief Whip, and Hon. Olajide Miqdad, who emerged as the Deputy Chief Whip.
Addressing the members of the House after the elections, the outgoing speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Akindejoye Olasoji, stated that the official hand-over would be held at a later date at the Faculty Legislative Council (FLC) office.
He also mentioned the decision of the house to set up a caretaker committee that would work with the executive council for the first three weeks of the next academic session to preside over the electoral process of the faculty.
