World Clean-up Day: Recycledge, JCI UI, others Organise Cleaning Exercise in UI

To mark this year’s World Clean-up Day, Recycledge and the Junior Chamber International, University of Ibadan (JCI UI) in collaboration with other organisations have on Saturday, September 16, 2023 organised a cleaning exercise and environmental sanitation in the University of Ibadan.
The World Clean-up Day which is an annual event that is held in at least 160 countries since its inception in 2018 is geared towards improving the sensitisation of the general public on environmental cleanliness and tackling improper management of solid wastes. For the UI mega clean-up, the main objective was to gather 2000kg of recyclable wastes in the university environment.
In a concerted effort, the exercise attracted over one hundred volunteers provided with face masks and hand gloves who cleared dirts in different parts of the university environment. The volunteers were also enlightened on recycling and waste management.
The event was not with the exception of side attractions like physical fitness and games which was sponsored by Plogging, YALI Nigeria and Recycling Alliance.
