AFAS Holds Personality Lecture for Freshers

The Association of Faculty of Arts Students on Thursday, September 29, 2023, held her personality lecture and orientation programme at the Large Lecture Theatre(LLT) of the faculty as part of the slated events for the just-concluded Freshers Week.

While addressing the freshers at the event, the faculty officer, Mr Louiza, spoke extensively about matters around the Faculty and the school at large. He enjoined students to voice out at any inconveniences. He further encouraged students to report to the authorities when they are faced with obstacles.

Also present at the lecture was Asido Campus Network (UI) president, Tawakalitu Olaoluwa who represented the mental health organisation, Asido Foundation. She delivered an insightful lecture on strategies for prioritising mental and physical health on campus.

“What stands between your goals and you is you”, she said.

A representative from Access Bank, UI Branch, Abereola Anuoluwa, also enlightened the students about the Roadmap to financial management and success as a student.

“No one is too young to be the best, be the best now, be the best for the future, be the best for the rainy days”, she said.

Dr Samuel Oluwatosin Okanlawon, a senior lecturer in the Department of Religious Studies gave a powerful speech titled “The Ten Commandments for Navigating Your Academic Journey.” He encouraged students to have a mind of their own, do what they are capable of and stop following others.

“Take ownership of your life, be an original, not a photocopy”, he urged.

Also present at the lecture was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Wole Oyetade.
