UI Directorate of Public Communication Celebrates Nigeria’s Independence, Collaborates with Camera Intellect

The Directorate of Public Communication, Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, on October 2, 2023, held an event, in partnership with Camera Intellect, to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day.
The event which was themed “The Power of Youth: From Despair of Hope” began with a photo walk which started at the UI Main Gate at 10 am with over 15 photographers in attendance, including commercial professional photographers, staff and interns of the directorate with student photographers.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu, the Public Relations Officer of the institution who was represented by Mr Olukunle Oladipo, a member of the directorate, affirmed that in accordance with the theme of the day, strength is the power of the youth.
She asserted that all eyes are on the youth because of their strength, hence there is a need for the youth to add value to their strength by being flexible in learning and multitasking. She also advised that youths should believe in themselves and Nigeria and make God the number one in every step they want to take.
She added that there is dignity in labour and the Nigerian Youths should embrace it and prepare well for a new and better tomorrow for the nation because “not all of us will ‘Japa”.
The team lead, Mr. Adeniyi Samuel Adebayo, a Senior Photographer in the Photography Unit asserted that the photo event is focused on using pictures of the University of Ibadan, a symbolic national heritage, to capture the attractive and alluring visual representation of the present to celebrate Nigeria at 63.
He mentioned that the photoshoot session was used to tell stories of trends amongst youth and the nation, not excluding the increase in various vices as against virtues.
The Senior Photographer stressed that the photo event was organised to assist the Nigerian youths and students to build and enhance their skills, to help them succeed and assist the country out of her current status.
Mr Adebayo stated that the team of photographers who were at the Photo Walk will send in their creative shots, which will be vetted to select the best three, awarded and displayed at the UI at 75 Photo Exhibition.
