The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Solomon Oyetade, had disclosed on Tuesday during the Congress held at the large lecture theater that students who are studying language-related courses in the faculty are to pay the studio levy.

The Dean noted that this had been concluded a while ago at the meeting of the committee of Deans, Provosts and Directors.

“We have had a meeting a long time ago and decided that students of this faculty who study language-based courses should pay the fee,” he said.

He also stated that departments like Linguistics and African languages, Music, CLA, Theater Arts fall under the category of departments that will have to pay the studio fee.

Realizing that the announcement was received with disbelief from the students, the Dean faulted it on the communication gap between the Heads of the respective departments and the students, as he had relayed the information to them after the meeting of the committee of Deans, Provosts, and Directors.

“I do communicate all the results of our meetings to the faculty officer who is to distill the message to the HODs through forum.”

Giving the reasons for the payment of the studio fee, he explained that it is crucial for the maintenance of the consumables and equipment used in the Music studio, Theater Arts studio, Language Arts studio and phonetic laboratory of the Linguistics department.

He further noted that he would be taking responsibility for the communication gap between the HODs and the students, stating that the needful will be done as regards the dissemination of information on the payment of the fee.
