Super 4 Female Category: CLA Edges Out Archaeology/Anthropology, Proceeds to the Next Round
The first round of the Super Cup female Category took place at the SUB Pitch on November 2, with the Archeology team taking the lead in the first half after scoring 2 goals to none. However, in the second half, CLA team equalised from 2 goals down and the match ended in penalty shootouts with CLA taking the lead.
The match started with the Archeology team playing an attack. At first, several attempts from the Archeology side proved abortive, until a freekick from Olamide went past the CLA defender and Goalkeeper into the net, Olamide scored the first goal of the match at about 5 minutes into first half. Also, Kemi from Archeology made a double attempt, where one was denied by the Goalkeeper and the other went over the bar. Towards the end of the match, another goal by Janet dropped into the CLA net. The straight shot from the defender could not be denied as the goals scored ended in 2 goals to none in the first half. Although CLA had some chances in the first half, they could not convert them into goals.
Meanwhile, in second half, CLA made a reshuffle to its team as Regina, Biola and Elizabeth (goalkeeper) came in as substitutes. The substitution turned out to be a game changer for CLA as they shifted from defensive style of playing to attack style. Unlike in first half, the passes and shoots became more accurate and their energy and sports spirit improved greatly, this new found confidence helped the team to equalise. Delight, the CLA Forward, scored the equaliser as she got brilliant assists from the likes of Regina and Biola, and they saved the day for CLA.
At some point during the match, a clear goal was denied the CLA side when the Archeology goalkeeper caught a ball inside the net.
However, penalties were played at the end of second half, and Archeology lost 3 penalties, while CLA lost two, bagging the win.
The “European Studies vs Music” game was declared a walk-over as the Music team failed to show up for the match.
