UI and Rutgers University Set to Sign MoU

The University of Ibadan and Rutgers University of New Jersey, Camden, have put together a Memorandum of Understanding to foster academic and cultural exchange through mutual assistance in the areas of research.

The efforts to establish cooperative relations have reached an advanced stage as it was included in the agenda of the meeting between the representatives of both institutions, which was held in the University of Ibadan.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, University of Ibadan, Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju, received the representatives from Rutgers University on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, on a courtesy visit before the meeting. She also assured them that the University of Ibadan is looking forward to a collaboration that would promote the acquisition of skills and knowledge.

She also noted that UI have always taken pride in its alumni, recognized as high-quality graduates, and so would wish to continue to give its students a solid background through exposure to other universities.

In his speech, the leader of the visiting team from Rutgers, the Chancellor, Dr Antonio D. Tillis, said he had always had high regard for the University of Ibadan. He expressed his excitement to collaborate with the oldest university in Nigeria, adding that his excitement stemmed from the impressive relationships he has had with some alumni of UI.

The Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by both institutions covers areas of cooperation such as research, exchange of academic staff and students, exchange of academic materials and information, transfer of academic credits for students, development of joint degree programmes and organization of conferences, workshops, and symposia.

The Rutgers University team included Dr Jimmy Jung, the Vice Chancellor, Mrs Bola Ibraheem, the Director of finance, Dr Christie E Sanders, Higher education consultant and D. Sarafa Ibraheem, representative of KOTIC.

The representatives of the university of Ibadan included principal officers, deans of faculties, directors of institutes and centres, as well as other top ranking academics from the university.
