The Speaker of the Faculty of Arts Legislative Council, Hon. Lukman Alagufon, has faulted the delay in constituting the Association of Faculty of Arts Students’ Independent Electoral Committee (AFASIEC) on the failure of some departments to submit the list of their nominees to the FLC.

At the plenary session held on Friday, February 23, 2024, the Speaker mentioned that the House had sent letters to all the departments in the Faculty of Arts, requesting the list of nominees.

“We have sent letters to each department to send their nominees. Only 7 out of the 12 departments have sent the lists of their nominees; we have received nomination lists from the departments of Linguistics, Arabic & Islamic Studies, Archaeology & Anthropology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Music, and English. However, Theater Arts, CLA, Classics, History, and European Studies have not sent their lists.”

Hon. Alagufon stated that there would be an emergency sitting for the screening of the nominees, and also urged the defaulting constituencies to forward their nomination lists to the house.

“There will be an emergency sitting for the purpose of screening the nominees. We don’t want a situation where they would plant people because of the election. I encourage all honourable members to be present for the screening. Also, constituencies that are yet to send their nominees should work on it.”
