Overcoming Challenges in the Faculty of Arts Deans Tournament

The recent announcement regarding the cancellation of all track events in the upcoming Faculty of Arts Deans Tournament has presented a significant challenge for intending athletes. While the abrupt disruption is disappointing, it also calls for active measures and efforts to address the issue and provide a way forward.

It is important to know and understand the reasons for the unavailability of the University stadium, Awo Stadium. While no official reason has been given by the university on why they are withholding access to Awo Stadium, seeking clarity can help to identify potential solutions.

One possible solution could be using alternative venues or facilities within the university campus. However, since Awo Stadium is the only available track facility on campus, the faculty could use nearby areas that are suitable for hosting track events. This may require coordination with relevant authorities to secure access and ensure the necessary resources are in place to accommodate the competition.

With the cancellation of track events, football seems to be the only standing outdoor game in the upcoming Deans Tournament. Efforts should be made to adapt and modify the tournament format to accommodate more outdoor games that can be conducted within the available facilities on campus. 

Football can only accommodate so many participants, however, by incorporating other sports like volleyball, handball, and table tennis— which do not require a track facility— student-athletes affected by the cancellation of track events can diversify and try out other sports. This can even further expand the sports culture in the faculty.

In conclusion, although the cancellation of track events might come as a disappointment to intending participants, the faculty sports committee can still turn things around and devise means to accommodate the athletes affected.
