AFAS FLC sitting ends in partial success, no budget was approved

The Faculty Legislative Council Plenary Sitting held on Friday, 28th June, 2024 ended without approval of any of the budget on the agenda of the sitting, though successfully inaugurated the honourables of the 2023 – 2024 parliamentary assembly.

The sitting which had in attendance honourables from various constituencies had the house deliberating on important matters on the agenda with major participation from Honourable Olufemi, Honourable Yeboah, Honourable Azeezat and Honourable Divine.

The outlined budgets for presentation in the sitting’s agenda are the budget for the Office of the Clerk, the budget for the Freshmen Week and the budget for the executive offices.

The house through the Speaker disapproved and placed on hold the budget for the office of the Clerk due to the fact that the budget was not properly addressed. Hence, the Clerk was told to prepare another copy, printed on the FLC’s letter headed paper and addressed properly before it can be considered for vetting and approval by the house.

The Freshmen and Executive Arm’s budgets were also placed on hold due to vacant offices in the executive arm, which Honourable Olufemi suggested that there be a bye election and there were deliberations on the point but with no decision. The honourables of the 2023 – 2024 parliamentary assembly were saddled with the responsibility of reaching out to their constituencies to decide on if there should be a proper bye election or there should be an election at the congress, to return with the resolutions at the next sitting.
