RESUMPTION: UI Students Resume Protest After 3-week Break

Students of the University of Ibadan on Friday September 20, 2024, have taken to the main entrance of the University, to resume a fresh protest against hike in fees. 

Recall that the management of the University of Ibadan on Saturday 31st of August 2024, released an internal memorandum stating that all student must vacate the school premises, including all halls of residence before 2pm. The memorandum also commenced the beginning of an enforced three-week break, which is to end on Friday, September 20 2024. This was in response to strings of protest that have sprung up since the July 17 protest that broke-out after a memorandum on light rationing was released. 

However, in response to the July 17 protest, the management of the University promised students that the Governing Council was going to sit to review the school.  Having sat on Thursday August 29, 2024, at the Senate Chamber, the outcome of the sitting of the Governing Council, resulted in the enforcement of the three-week holiday

Also, in the last week of the three-week holiday, the management of the university sent another internal memorandum on student’s resumption back to school, and further states that those who have not paid for their school will not be allowed back to their halls of residence.

The protest is currently taking resolutions at the Student’s Union building.
