AFAS Press Editor Wins Alfred Opubor Next-Gen Campus Reporter Awards

Olanshile Ogunrinu, AFAS Press Editor-In-Chief, has emerged as a joint winner of the 2024 edition of the prestigious CJID’s Alfred Opubor Next-Gen Campus Reporter Awards in the Data reporting category.
Olanshile was shortlisted for this award in the Best Data Story category for his joint data story entry ‘School Fees Increment Pose Troubles for Nigerian Students’, which he did alongside Hayatullahi Mudathir, a campus journalist from the Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
The Awards was created in 2017 by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (formerly Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, PTCIJ) and named after the late Alfred Opubor in honor of his pioneering contributions to journalism. Professor Opubor was Nigeria’s first professor of mass communication. The maiden edition of the awards was held in 2018.
The awards aim to celebrate and inspire outstanding campus journalists who spotlight social issues and contribute to solution pathways through storytelling.
The winners in the categories and the overall best campus journalist for the year was announced on Wednesday, 27th of November, 2024 during the celebration of CJID 10th anniversary at the Abuja Continental Hotels.
