Jane Oshotse Emerges AFAS Vice President-Elect as Electoral College Announces By-Election Results

A 300-level student of the department of Philosophy, Jane Oshotse, has emerged as the Association of Faculty of Arts Student Vice President-elect in the recently concluded bye-election held on Wednesday.

Out of the 12 total votes cast, Jane Oshotse had 8 votes, Agbaje Rebecca was able to garner 3 votes, while Ojeyinka Emmanuel had 1 vote.

For the position of the Director of Sports, Folarin Emmanuel, a 400-level student of the department of Religious Studies had 10 votes, leaving his opponent, Omonyegue Elijah with 2 votes. Praise Bamiduro, a 400-level student of the department of Religious Studies, cleared all the 12 votes, unopposed.

Recall that the by-election to fill up the vacant executive positions is indirect through the electoral college consisting of representatives from the twelve (12) departments in the faculty.

According to the chairman of the Electoral College, Ozeigbe Kehinde Michael, he stated that the election which started at 10:00am was delayed due to the network glitch on the part of some members of the electoral college.

“ The election started around 10:00am and there was a deadline, but only 10 members of the electoral college were able to vote and we couldn’t go on with the counting of the votes because it does not seem right. Those that were having network issues, we had to reach out to their department Presidents and we gave them a 45minutes ultimatum to exercise their rights.”

Speaking on the inauguration of the newly elected members of the executive, the chairman stated the electoral college will have to write a letter to the Dean, Faculty of Arts, after which the inauguration would take place.

“For the inauguration of the elected candidates, I met with the Sub-Dean, but he said that we have to write a letter to the Dean, with the inclusion of three signatures of the members of the electoral college and the Speaker of the FLC. If the letter is delivered today, the inauguration will take place tomorrow.”

While reacting to her election victory, Jane Oshotse expressed her appreciation to those who worked towards her emergence as the AFAS Vice President-Elect and promised to bring a meaningful change to the association.
