IDIA, AWO, QUEENS, INDY, ZIK Hall Shine at JAWWAR Debate’s First Round

The halls of residence of the University of Ibadan’s competed against each other in the first rounds of inter-hall debates of the 10th Edition Annual Jaw War debating competition held on Tuesday, 26th, November, 2024 at the New Faculty Lecture Theatre of the Faculty of Technology, featured ten halls of residence.

The first debate, between Alexander Brown Hall and Obafemi Awolowo Hall tackled the issue “Is Military rule the way forward for African Countries?” Kuti and Zik debated “Should African countries prioritize open borders or strict regulations?” Idia Hall and Mellanby Hall discussed “Should Traditional Institutions be integrated into modern governance frameworks”. Independence Hall and Tedder Hall, argued Porous borders in West Africa are the primary catalyst for the region’s illicit trade, drug trafficking, and terrorism problem. Queens Hall and Bello Hall, Is using animals for scientific research justifiable?

The results of the debates are the following: ABH 66% VS AWO 71.6% 

KUTI 65.1% ZIK 67.3%

IDIA HALL 76.1% MELLANBY 61.6%

INDY HALL 72.5% VS TEDDER HALL 72.25%

QUEENS HALL 66.8% VS BELLO 66.6%

Amoo Oluwabukunmi, the first speaker from the Queen Idia Hall emerged as the overall best speaker in the debate. The first round of faculty category continues on Thursday, 28th of November, 2024.
