“Tell the truth responsibly”, UI Dean of Students Charges campus journalists

The Dean of Students, Professor Adekeye Abiona has charged the Union of Campus Journalism, University of Ibadan at the union’s Global Campus Journalism Summit 1.0 and 36th Induction Ceremony held on 30th of November, 2024.
The Dean’s message was delivered by Dr. Babatunde Ojebuyi, a lecturer in the Department of Communication and Language Arts and an ex-member of the Union of Campus Journalist.
In his speech, Professor Abiona, represented by Dr Ojebuyi, applauded the Union for being a team of responsible journalists. In his words “You have been practicing responsible journalism”. Affirming that being a responsible journalist is being conscious of the impact of reports on the community and ensuring that while you tell the truth, you do not jeopardise the peaceful coexistence of the environment”.
He asserted that campus journalists are “the consciousness of the campus” advising that campus journalists should tell the truth responsibly because information from campus journalists can bring about unrest if not handled properly.
