UCJ UI Holds Global Campus Journalism Summit and 36th Induction Ceremony

The Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan held her first Global Campus Journalism Summit and 36th Induction Ceremony at the KAAF Auditorium, Human Nutrition Department, on the 30th of November, 2024.
The event themed “The Future of Campus Journalism In Nigeria: Press Censorship, Digital Misinformation and Missing Perspectives”, saw the induction of new inductees into the Union of Campus Journalists.
Speaking at the event, the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Simon Kolawole, Founder and CEO, Cable Newspaper Ltd emphasised that press censorship is still the same in whatever form of administration Nigeria has ever been ruled by, either military or democracy.
Mr. Simon represented by Mrs. Oluseyi Awojulugbe stressed that every innovative idea of this current UCJUI administration including the news reporting and broadcasting in Yoruba and Hausa with the incorporation of sign language for inclusivity requires sustenance measures to aid it in having a long-lasting effect on journalism in the University of Ibadan.
He also advised campus journalists “ensure you are the best at your journalism niche”. He added “This time calls for radical innovation” in the journalism terrain.
Honourable Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, speaking at the panel session on “The boundary between public relations, propaganda, and the press” advised journalists to dig deep and not rely on people for information, mentioning that some journalists want to get accolades for news of in-depth quality from the comfort of their domain without putting in the work”
