Rise of Legends: Tedder, Idia, Social Sciences, and Law Face Off in Jawwar Finals

The JAWWAR semi-finals for the hall and faculty round took place on December 17, 2024, at the Social Science Lecture Theatre.
The debate featured four halls against each other and four faculties against each other. Faculty of Arts spoke on the topic “Do the benefits of the international monetary fund outweigh the cost?” against the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Agriculture spoke against the Faculty of The Social Sciences on the topic “Should Al Development Be Strictly Regulated To Prevent Potential Misuse?”
Queen Idia Hall and Nnamdi Azikiwe argued “Local government autonomy in Nigeria; the way forward.” Queen Elizabeth Hall and Lord Tedder Hall, on the other hand, debated “Can performance-based funding help address the college dropout problem?”
Faculty of Arts had 65% while Faculty of Law had 69%, Faculty of The Social Sciences had 73.5% while Faculty of Agriculture had 52.5%. Queen Idia Hall had 64% while Nnamdi Azikwe Hall had 60.75%. Lord Tedder Hall had 74% while Queen Elizabeth Hall had 66%.
Speaking on the performance of the Faculty of Arts, a judge, Dr. Demola Lewis of the Department of Linguistics, highlighted that the faculty representative’s speech did not provide an explanation supporting the facts.
Yahaya Dorcas from the Faculty of the Social Sciences was the best speaker in the Faculty category, and Akande Omobobola James from Lord Tedder Hall was the best speaker in the Hall category.
Faculty of The Social Sciences and Faculty of Law, Queen Idia Hall and Lord Tedder Hall will proceed to the final round which is scheduled to take place on the 8th of January, 2025 at the International Conference Centre.
