FLC to handle CPS constitutional duties – Committee Recommends

The Committee On AFAS Bye-Election recommendations on the Constitution Amendment of the section on the Council of Presidents and Secretaries were presented at the plenary session held on Friday, 20th December, 2024.

Recall that the Faculty of Arts Legislative Council in a previous plenary session had moved the Bill Titled: Bill for the amendment of Article 13 of the Constitution: Council of Presidents and Secretaries to the Committee Stage.

The committee members were Hon. Ogunsemore Busayo Blessing – Chairperson, Hon. Olaleye Azeezat Omolola, Hon. Raji Noah T., Hon. Adeniran Pauline Aanuoluwa, and Hon. Thomas Erioluwa Abraham. 

The committee’s first recommendation stated “That the prayers and clauses of this bill be approved by the House given its clearly stated objectives, necessity, and importance.” And the second recommendation was “That every other function given to the CPS in the Constitution aside from the Bye-Election, which would be handled by the Electoral College, be given to the FLC, that is, anywhere CPS appears on the Constitution aside from Article Thirteen (13) be replaced with FLC”

The recommendations were put to vote amongst honourable members present and the majority approved of the suggestions hence the presiding officer, the Speaker announced that the recommendations were approved.
