The University of Ibadan has received 40 poles of solar-powered street lights from Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power.

The delivery of the poles was done on behalf of the Minister by Mr. Femi Awogboro, an aide to the minister after a report was made by AFAS Press on the University of Ibadan and unlit roads.

Recall that AFAS Press had recently published a report on unlit roads within the University campus where important roads like Oduduwa, Barth and others had been spotlighted emphasizing its security implications, and the concerns it has raised amongst staff and students of the institution.

Receiving the items on behalf of the institution, Professor Peter Olapegba, The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration appreciated the gesture and applauded the minister for his unwavering commitment to improving the nation’s power sector.

In the words of Prof. Olapegba “The thoughtfulness of the minister will no doubt help lighten up some dark areas of the University campus, thus making life easier at night.”

The DVC Admin asserted that some of the solar-powered street lights would be fixed at the College of Medicine while the ones fixed on campus would be done strategically.
