Hon. Olufemi Inioluwa (Pope) Emerges Speaker- Elect of AFAS FLC 2024/25 Parliamentary Session

In a significant transition of power, the Association of Faculty of Arts Students Faculty Legislative Council (AFAS FLC) has elected new officers to steer the affairs of the AFAS legislative arm on March 1st, 2025 at the valedictory sitting of the 2023/24 parliamentary session.
Hon. Olufemi Inioluwa, a sole candidate, from the Linguistics and African Languages constituency, was elected as the new Speaker of the Council, securing 24 votes against 1 void.
The Deputy Speaker position was clinched by Hon. Johnson Gideon, also a sole candidate, from the Archaeology and Anthropology constituency, who won with 22 votes against 1 undecided and 2 void
In another position, Hon. Oladoyin Adedoyin from Music constituency was elected as the Deputy Chief Whip, narrowly defeating Hon. Omafe Oluwaseun from European Studies constituency with 13 votes to 12.
In addition, Hon. Abdulazeez Abdulwaheed from Arabic and Islamic Studies constituency emerged as the Chief Whip with 23 votes against 2 void votes. Hon. David Chibuke from Philosophy secured the Deputy Clerk position with 19 votes against 6 undecided while Hon. Anyah Precious from Archaeology and Anthropology secured the position of the Clerk of the house with 24 votes against 1 void.
In his inaugural speech, the Speaker- elect expressed gratitude to his fellow Honourables for their confidence in him. He also promised to stand by them and fight for the interests of the House.
“Thank you for allowing me to serve,” he said.
