UI’SRC Approves #1,000 Increment in Basic Dues

The University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (UI’SRC), at its second emergency meeting held on Monday, April 7, 2025, approved an increase in the basic dues payable from #3,000 to #4,000, marking a #1,000 increment.

This decision followed a motion by Hon. Oduola Peter, representing Kenneth Mellanby Hall Constituency, proposing a raise of dues payable to #4,000. This was in contrast to a motion raised by Hon. Qudus Adedokun, who proposed an increase to #3,500. Hon. Peter’s motion attracted 24 votes, surpassing Hon. Adedokun’s 17 votes

Earlier, a motion was raised by Hon. Michael Kazeem for the House to adopt the collated Google Form results —where 1,172 supported no increment and 1,177 supported an increase in the basic dues, reflecting 5 votes difference. The motion was supported by 23 honourables.

However, Honourable Jokomba Quyum appealed on the floor of the House for the Council of Hall Chairpersons and the Council of Faculty Presidents to show consideration by accepting #3,500 from students, if feasible, in light of the prevailing financial constraints.

The online meeting lasted for over four hours, with nearly two hours exhausted collating Google Forms reports before a final decision was reached.
