By-Election: Two Candidates Qualify for Election, One Disqualified

The AFAS Electoral College conducted an online screening on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to assess the preparedness of candidates and evaluate the feasibility of their manifestos ahead of the upcoming by-election.

This was revealed in the official release sent out by the Public Relations Officer and co-signed by the Secretary and the Chairman, Ayodele Akinkunmi.

Mohammed Kehinde Okunola, the aspirant for the office of the Treasurer and Okunola Abigeal Oluwakemi, the aspirant for Financial Secretary, with 72.3 and 56 points respectively were confirmed to have qualified to contest in the election, while Binuyo Olasubomi Israel, the aspirant for the position of the Director of Social and Welfare Services, did not pass the screening exercise.

Israel’s last-minute manifesto failed to address the pressing issue affecting the welfare of AFASites and he evidently had no clear plans for sponsorship. Notably, he was unaware of the correct title of the office he was vying for.

However, other aspirants were also not without flaws. The candidate for the office of Financial Secretary, for instance, struggled to clearly distinguish her responsibilities from those of the Treasurer’s.

– Okunola Abigeal Oluwakemi (Financial Secretary) – 56. Qualified

– Binuyo Olasubomi Isreal (Director of Social & Welfare Services) – 44.2. Disqualified
