The Association of Faculty of Arts Legislative Council has announced the “automatic forfeiture” of the seats of three honourable members of the house in the first plenary session in the second semester held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the New Faculty Building, Faculty of Arts.
In the sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Janet Meziem of the English Constituency, the House noted that the 400 level representative from the History constituency, the 400 level representative from the Philosophy constituency, and Hon. Adejoke Damilare of Anthropology constituency have all missed sittings more than three times, which violates Article 21 (iii) of the AFAS constitution which states that “a member of the FLC shall be deemed to have forfeited his or her seat, should he or she be absent in three consecutive sittings without a written notification to the Speaker through the Clerk.”
The House also declared that the heads of those affected constituencies would be notified through a written letter for the replacement of the vacant seats.
