Association of Faculty of Arts’ Director of Social and Welfare Services, Oyewole Christopher Tolulope, has written an apology letter to the Faculty Legislative Council over the spending of the excess on the approved budget for the AFAS Freshers’ Welcome Party by the House.
In a letter signed and submitted through the clerk of the House, Oyewole Christopher apologised for diverting the sum of 18,000 naira which was “over approved” by the house. He also claimed full responsibility for the error and stressed the relevance of adhering to budgetary guidelines of the FLC.
“I am writing this letter to offer my sincere apologies for the redirection of 18,000 naira which is the over-approved budget of the Faculty of Arts Freshers Welcome event. I take full responsibility for this error and understand the importance of adherence to budgetary guidelines set forth by the Faculty legislative council,” the letter read.
He maintained that while the money had been refunded to the Association’s purse, it was not a deliberate act to spend the “over approved” sum.
“Although the money has been refunded to the Association’s purse, I want you to know that it was never my intention to spend the over-approved money (18,000 naira).” The letter read in part.
Also, he pledged to uphold the principles of fiscal responsibility and transparency and restated his commitment towards ensuring accountability.
“I value the relationship we have with the Faculty Legislative Council, and I assure you that we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of fiscal responsibility and transparency. I understand the trust that has been placed on us, and we are fully committed to regaining that trust through our actions and accountability.”
