Faculties of Social Sciences and Technology, Zik Hall and Kuti Hall Qualify for Jaw War Finals

The Faculty of The Social Sciences, Faculty of Technology, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, and Ransome Kuti Hall have proceeded to the final lapse of the Jaw War public speaking competition after they scaled the hurdles of the semi-finals held on February 16, 2024, at the Social Science Lecture Theatre.

The debate featured four halls against each other and four faculties against each other. Faculty of Arts and Faculty of The Social Sciences spoke on the topic “Globalisation: The Risk of Cultural Erosion, A Worthy Cause?”. The Faculty of Social Sciences triumphed with 68.3% over the Faculty of Arts which had 65.3%.

Faculty of Law and Faculty of Technology debated on the topic “Does Formal Education Prepare Students For The Workforce in Africa”. The faculty of Technology emerged as the winner with 69.3% while the Faculty of Law had 69.1%.

In the Hall category, Alexander Brown Hall competed against Nnamdi Azikwe Hall on “Should Corporate Social Responsibility Be a Legal Requirement for Corporation?”. Nnamdi Azikwe Hall had 68.1% over Alexander Brown’s 60.8%.

Ransome Kuti  Hall had a face-off against Obafemi Awolowo Hall on “Universal Basic Income is Solution to Income Inequality in Africa”. Kuti Hall defeated Awo Hall with 65.3% and 65.1% respectively.

Fabarebo Victor and Ayo-Salako Rehoboth emerged as the best speakers for the Faculty and  Hall categories respectively.

The final round is scheduled to take place on February 23, 2024, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
