Hon Miqdad Emerges AFAS FLC Speaker-Elect for 2023/2024 Parliamentary Session

Former Deputy Whip of the recently dissolved parliament and honourable member representing Arabic and Islamic Studies Constituency in the Faculty of Arts’ Legislative council, Hon. Olajide Miqdad Folasubomi has emerged as the Speaker-elect forthe 2023/ 2024 parliamentary session.

Hon Miqdad emerged with 23 votes, 1 undecided vote, and 1 opposed vote after his opponent had been disqualified by the electoral committee set up by the House.

In the same vein, Hon Busayo representing Archaeology and Anthropology constituency won the seat of the deputy  speaker unopposed with 22 votes.

While in the contest for the position of the clerk of the house, Hon Oyeleke Yusroh, representing the Communication and Language Arts constituency defeated her opponent, Hon Iseoluwa from Philosophy constituency, with 21 to 6 votes and a null vote.

For the position of the deputy whip, Hon Jesutimileyin from Classics constituency won by polling 16 votes, leaving his opponent, Hon Babatunde with 12 votes. While  Hon Essien Essien Ita from Music constituency and Hon Anya Precious won the position of the chief whip and deputy clerk respectively, unopposed.

While giving his speech, the speaker-elect sought the continuous support of the honourable members and promised to foster unity and transparency in the house.
