Hon Yeboah Daniel has been disqualified from contesting for the position of Faculty of Arts’ Legislative Council after he has been nominated for the position.

In the ongoing valedictory session, he was disqualified by the electoral committee set up to conduct the election of the new principal officers of the parliamentary for the 2023/2024 session.

The committee headed by the recently dissolved speaker of the house, Hon Lukman Alagufon based the decision on the need to protect the sanctity of the speakership position, as it is not meant for an individual who will be acting as an “errand boy” for the executive council.

He stated that he had received several petitions and read a publication by AFAS Press regarding one of the aspirants being sponsored by AFAS President, Olamilekan Adeniyi, but he hesitated to act due to some considerations.

“I received many petitions concerning one of the aspirants but I felt reluctant to act because one of the nominees was from my department and for investigation on the allegation flying around that the President is sponsoring a particular candidate for the speakership position.”

“ I can tell you categorically that one of the nominees is being sponsored by the President of the association. I received more than seven pieces of evidence. Yet, I refuse to accept it as genuine information.”

Hon Alagufon noted that despite the statement released by the house to stop Mojuba from canvassing for the aspirant,  he didn’t stop from canvassing for Hon Yeboah Daniel, even up to the day of the election.

“The house released a statement to stop him from continuing this act, but as at last night he was still calling the new honourable members, canvassing for the candidacy of Hon Daniel.”

Furthermore, he stated that aside from the evidence available against  the candidacy of Hon Daniel, he is not qualified to contest for the position, as regards his cumulative grade points and nonpayment of AFAS dues.

“ Apart from the discoveries, this particular candidate is not qualified to participate in this election because I requested for his transcript and AFAS dues receipts.”

However, Hon Alagufon stated that he hold no grudges against Hon Yeboah Daniel because he has been a commitment, active, and hardworking honorable member.

“ I do not have any personal issue with Honourable Yeboah Daniel. He has been a commited, active, and hardworking member but I have to protect the image of this house.”
