Kegites Club UI Gets New Chief

Foremost sociocultural student club in Nigeria, the Kegites Club of Nigeria University of Ibadan, National Headquarters, has on Saturday held a coronation ceremony at the Nnamdi Azikwe hall cafeteria where a 300-level student of Communication and Language Arts, Abiona Mathew was crowned as the new chief.

The event which commenced on Saturday noon with a health talk featuring the director of the University Health Service, Dr Aderonke Ajav and other health workers was attended by members of the club from other institutions branches.

Abiona Mathew, a student of the department of Communication and Language Arts was crowned as the new chief while Olanrewaju Clement, a student of the department of Architecture was named the Elder (Vice President) of the club for the 2023/2024 session.

The overnight event also featured important personalities who are members of the club including Professor Makinde Olapegba, the Deputy Vice Chancellor(Admin) of the University of Ibadan, who spoke briefly during the health talk, Oba Peter Daramola, the Olora of Ora Ekiti kingdom in Ekiti Kingdom was also present at the event.

Speaking to AFAS Press, the new chief expressed his delight at emerging as the Ab National chief of the Kegites Club of Nigeria, National Headquarters.

I am deeply humbled and honored to emerge as the new Kegite Chief of the University of Ibadan, and I am very grateful to the entire Kegite community and that of National Headquarter, university of Ibadan in particular for their trust and support. I appreciate the efforts of my predecessors from my direct father up to those brains behind the  starting of the club and the collective contributions of our members, which have made our club a beacon of African culture and tradition.

As we move forward, I hope to continue this legacy, fostering growth, unity, and cultural excellence within our club and beyond, while upholding the values that have made Kegite a shining example of African pride and heritage,” he said.
