UI Management Releases Memo to Affirm Resolutions with Students

The University of Ibadan Management has released memoranda in response to the students’ protest held on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th July, 2024 to affirm the resolutions of the meeting with the Student Union leadership.

The school management released three memos on Thursday 18th July, 2024 to update the university community on the decisions made at the meeting between the management and the Executive Committee of the Student Union held on Wednesday 17th July, 2024.

The release on the GES Textbook read in part “Management has resolved that purchase of GES Textbooks should not be a precondition for registration for the courses”. It was also resolved that the purchase of the textbook should be optional.

Also the release on the electricity memo circulating on social media as false “The university management wishes to state that the purported memorandum did not emanate from the University Management and should therefore be discountenanced.” In addition, the memo “Members of the University Community are assured of regular and steady electricity supply across the campus as much as there is power supply by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (IBEDC).” 

The release on sale of textbooks by lecturers stated that it is a prohibited act. “This is to reiterate that the sale of handout to students is prohibited in the University of Ibadan” the release read in part.
