AFAS Elections: FLC Approves 10-Member AFASIEC; Two Department Reps Pending

The Faculty Legislative Council has announced that only 10 members of AFAS qualified for AFAS Independent Electoral Commission and they will oversee the electioneering process in the faculty for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The names were made available to the public in a release titled ‘Report on AFASIEC’ by the FLC’s Spokesperson, Hon. Lawal Kayode.

The names of the screened and qualified members of the faculty’s Electoral Commission are; Oziegbe Kehinde (Religious Studies) – Chairman, Adediran Faith (History) – General Secretary, Okolie Ifeanyi (Classics) – Public Relations Officer, Solanke Oluwatoyosi (European Studies) – Financial Secretary, James Samuel (Music), Osho Elizabeth (C.L.A), Rufai Abdulhaqq (A.I.S), Awolusi Faith (Philosophy), Solademi Joel (English), Adewuyi Mary (Arch and Anth) with a Pressman, Praise Olorunfemi.

The release highlighted that the screening sessions were in batches due to the unavailability of the intending members of the Electoral Commission. Recall that AFAS Press, in a report, outlined that only 6 members were available for screening, thereby making the FLC hold an emergency sitting to screen other members.

According to the release, after the two screening sessions, “the House reached a conclusion that the constituencies yet to be screened would have to be screened through a virtual meeting.” with a clause that “the virtual meeting would be the last chance for all constituencies as the AFASIEC needed to be set up as soon as possible”.

The release read in part, “Having ten constituencies already screened and just a few days to GES Exams, the House had to proceed with the AFASIEC members on ground so as to prevent a situation where the elections of the association would be done in a jiffy without the proper planning and logistics needed.”
