Protest to Resume in 48hours if Minister’s Promise fails, UI SU Warns

The University of Ibadan Student Union, UI SU has affirmed that the ongoing protest on the over 100 days blackout at UCH will resume if the promise of the Minister of Power to restore power after 48 hours does not yield a positive outcome.
This was made known in a release by UISU titled “Update on UCH Protest” where the the Union made known the demands of the demonstration being; immediate restoration of power to the University College Hospital and, by extension, Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall. And immediate implementation of the 50% electricity tariff subsidy promised to tertiary institutions and healthcare facilities.
The release read in part, “Our demonstration coincided with the visit of the Minister of Power, Mr. Bayo Adelabu, who also came around on official assignment”. And “In his response, the Minister assured us that power would be restored to UCH, ABH, and Ayodele Falase Hall within 48 hours.”
The Union hence affirmed that “Following this development and a brief meeting among students, we resolved to suspend the protest for 48 hours pending the lapse of the Minister of Power’s self-imposed ultimatum. However, if the blackout persists beyond the 48 hours, we vow to resume our demonstrations in earnest! That is from 7:00am on Thursday 13th February, 2025.
